Entry 342: Christmas Card

Every year since we have been Kansas City Royals season ticket holders we have gotten a Christmas card from the Royals. Here is this years.

Entry 341: Basketball Game

We decided to go to an Iowa Hawkeye basketball game last Friday when they played South Illinois University of Edwardsville. This was Julie's first time seeing any University of Iowa sporting event, let alone Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa ended up destroying the Panthers and we both enjoyed the game.

Entry 340: Lance's Thanksgiving Accident

During Thanksgiving dinner Lance tried to move the coffee table and as you can see he broke the leg. Julie thought it was the funniest thing ever, but in Lance's defense the table is more than 10 years old. While fixing the table by putting the screws back in, Lance's father had the line of the night when he said, "Let me know if you get tired of screwing."

Entry 339: Thanksgiving In Iowa

We recently got back from celebrating Thanksgiving in Iowa with Lance's parents. We left Thanksgiving morning and got there just in time to eat dinner. Everyone brought their favorite dish ans since we traveled from Missouri we brought a pumpkin and apple pie from our favorite restaurant in Kansas City. We really enjoyed seeing everyone and having a great meal.

Entry 338: Early Thanksgiving Dinner

This weekend we had an early Thanksgiving dinner with Julie's mom and dad, her sister and brother in law, and her nephew. We made the ham, rolls, and potato casserole at our home and then drove it over to the party. We ended up having a nice meal and enjoyed eating our personalized pies from Kent and Nancy. Afterwards we all sat down and caught up with each other and watched the Missouri Tigers play the Iowa State Cyclones.

Entry 337: Dinner With Family

We were lucky enough to have dinner tonight with Lance's sister and husband at On The Border. They came in to watch the Kansas City Chiefs game today and met up with us afterwards for dinner. It was nice to see them again.

Entry 336: Harry Potter

This weekend we decided to go and see the new Harry Potter movie. We went to the 10:00 a.m. showing and it was still packed. We both enjoyed it, but for different reasons. Julie liked it because it was like the book, but Lance enjoyed it because of the action. All in all we gave it two thumbs up.

Entry 335: Tough Times

We have been a little lax in updating our blog lately, but we have been dealing with some problems lately. Lance's mom had brain surgery five years ago to remove a tumor, but unfortunately the tumor came back and she had brain surgery again this Friday. The last time she had her brain surgery it did not go well and it took about two years for her to regain everything she lost.
The surgery took place on Friday at the University of Iowa and it was a long day. The surgery began at 7:15 in the morning and didn't end until 10:30 at night. The tumor was all taken out, except for a small part that was too close to the nerves. Lance's mom is still able to talk, move her arms and legs, and has not lost any memory.
We do want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. We are so blessed to have such great family and friends.

Entry 334: Hawkeye Fan In Training

We were recently in Iowa City, Iowa and Julie began to catch Hawkeye fever. She asked Lance if she could get a Hawkeye sweatshirt, and Lance of course agreed. We went to The Hawk Shop and Julie picked out a nice sweatshirt. It makes Lance's heart swell with pride to see Julie starting to become a Hawkeye fan.

Entry 333: Season Tickets: Part Two

Last Thursday we had the chance to go back to Kauffman Stadium and renew our season tickets. We first went and looked at the seats, so we could pick where we wanted to sit next season. We decided that next year we would upgrade from the 21 game package to the 41 game package and we bought the parking passes also. After purchasing the tickets we were able to watch game 2 of the World Series and walk the field (as you can see from the photos below). We both can't wait until next season starts.

Entry 332: New Toilet

This may not seem like a big deal, but a few days ago we bought and installed a new toilet. Julie had been wanting one for awhile and Lance finally gave in. You will also notice that it is a low flush toilet also.

Entry 331: Lance's Sisters Wedding

Last Saturday Lance's sister, Jacque, got married. We arrived on Friday because Lance was an usher and had to be there for the rehearsal. It was a lovely wedding and we are thrilled to welcome Jon into he family. Enjoy the pictures taken by Lance's brother Rod.

Entry 330: Last Royals Game Of The Year

Thursday night was our last Royals game of the year. We really enjoy going, so it was a sad day for us. We decided to take our friend, Anita, with us to the game and we all had a great time. Julie's favorite player, Zack Greinke, was pitching and Lance's favorite player, Joakim Soria, closed. It was our last game of the year, so we decided to stay for the whole thing. It was fun, but we are sad it's over.

Entry 329: Royals vs. Twins

Last Wednesday when Lance picked up Julie from work, she said that she wished we were going to the game tonight. When we got home Lance looked and we had some extra tickets laying around, so we traded them in and went to the game. It was a great game, but unfortunately we had to leave by the 5th inning because of work the next day. We had a great time though.

Entry 328: Fall Festival

A few weeks ago Liberty had their Fall Festival and we decided to take Julie's sister, Mary, and our nephew, Tyler, to it. We got their early and were able to eat breakfast at one of our favorite places, Crepes On The Square. As Julie and Mary talked, Lance walked around and looked at some of the shops with Tyler and Bobby. We were able to see a few shops before the parade started, and lets just say that at the parade Bobby made off with quite the load of dog biscuits. All in all a fun day for everyone.

Entry 327: Bobby's ER Visit

Bobby enjoys his car rides, but tonight he took it to a new extreme. We were two blocks from home, when Bobby decided to jump out the car window at 30 mph. We drove back around and picked up Bobby and made a quick run to the doggy emergency room. He got lucky and had no broken bones, but he does have some road rash. So Bobby has to rest (which Julie is in charge of) and was given some pain meds. We go back in 4 days and we'll see what the vet says.

Entry 236: Fan Appreciation Night

Friday night we had the chance to take some of our friends to a fan appreciation night at the Royals stadium. We had free food, live music, got autographs from former players, and were able to go on the field. We had a great time as you can see from the pictures.

Entry 325: Royals Game

Last Sunday we went to the Royals/Indians game. Before the game began though we tailgated and grilled some shrimp and Italian sausages. The shrimp was delicious because Lance's brother gave him his secret recipe. It was a great game with the Royals winning, but the highlight for Julie was when a shirtless guy ran on the field and was eventually tackled by security. We have one game left, so we are a little bit depressed and sad.

You can see in the far left the shirtless guy being worked over by security.

Here is what we were grilling before the game.

Entry 324: Viva Los Royals

Last night we decided to trade in some of our unused season tickets and go to the Royals game last night. It was a great night because it was Viva Los Royals night (a night where they celebrate the Latin American players), we got a free t-shirt, and the Royals scored 11 runs in the first three innings. The best part was that Lance finally caught a hot dog in the hot dog launch. For some reason he always wanted to catch a hot dog being thrown through the air or shot out of a cannon, and as you can tell from the picture below he was extremely excited.

Entry 323: Julie's Big Break

Fracture would be a more appropriate title in this case. Three weeks ago Julie started having some knee pain. At first we didn't make a big deal about it, but the pain kept getting worse. Two weeks ago Julie went to urgent care and they said that she just strained a ligament in her knee. We were told to just ice it, massage it, and stay off of it as much as possible. We did this, but a few days later the pain was even worse. Julie made an appointment to see her doctor and the doctor told her the same thing, but she did order an MRI just to make sure. Julie took the day off and Lance ran her to get her MRI. Afterwards they told her that they would have the results in 24-48 hours. Julie got a phone call 15 minutes later telling her to stay off her feet because she had fractured her tibia. They couldn't tell us if she would need surgery or a cast because she needed to see a specialist. Yesterday she saw the specialist and we got the best news possible. She does not need surgery or even a cast because the fracture is already starting to heal. The bad news is that for the next 6 weeks she is wheelchair bound. Lets hope it heels right.

Entry 322: New Washer and Dryer

Today our new washer and dryer were delivered. We are trying to be more energy efficient and since our old washer and dryer were energy hogs, we decided this was the place to start. We have already started using it and love it. Sorry for the picture, but Lance for some reason just couldn't get a good shot.

Entry 321: Red Friday

Monday is the Chiefs first football game of the new season, so all of Kansas City celebrated by having a Red Friday (for those that aren't from around here, it basically means everyone wears red to show their support for the Chiefs). Julie decided Bobby should get in the act and put his Chiefs bandanna on him.

Entry 320: Royals Pictures

When we went to the Royals game on Sunday a Royals photographer took our picture at the game. They actually turned out pretty cool and in one of them you can see the fireworks going off because the Royals had just hit a home run. Just click the link below and scroll down until you see us (we have about 6-7 pictures in the gallery).

Entry 319: Royals versus Tigers

Last Sunday we wen to the Royals game when they played the Tigers. We always seem to enjoy the Sunday games because we can take our time tailgating, plus the Royals wear their powder blue jerseys (which Julie really likes). It was a beautiful day for tailgating and the game, but the bad part was that Julie's knee was still hurting (much more info on that later). Since Julie's knee was hurting we changed our tickets to the wheelchair section, so she didn't have to walk up and down stairs. The Royals won an we got to see Joakim Soria, but the highlight for Lance was the hot dog race. They let the little kids run the hot dog race on Sundays and as you can see from the picture below mustard pretty much had it all wrapped up, but he then began show boating and forgot to run through the finish line. It was very funny, but Lance was quite disappointed because he is a HUGE mustard fan.

Entry 318: New Television

Let us just start off by saying that yes we know it has been awhile since we last posted, but we have been super busy and you will see why in the next few posts. We have been talking about getting a second television for quite some time because our television viewing habits are quite different (Julie likes HGTV and Lance likes his sports), so last Saturday we pulled the trigger and finally got the second TV. We originally were just going to get a small one for downstairs, but we found a great deal on this one and purchased it.

On a side note, yes we see that the old TV is still mounted behind it, but we are having a small disagreement about this. Julie wants to hire someone to come and remount it, but Lance says he can do it himself. We'll keep you updated on who wins this one.

Entry 317: Weekend in St. Louis

This past weekend we went to St. Louis to go to Julie's cousins wedding. We planned on leaving early Saturday morning, but Julie's knee had been acting up so we first made a trip to urgent care. The doctor told us that Julie had an inflamed tendon and gave her a prescription to help. We were finally on our way, but unfortunately late enough that we couldn't make the wedding. We We did make the reception though, and it was amazing. It was at Windows On Washington and everything there was incredible. The view was of downtown St. Louis and Lance enjoyed the ice sculpture that dispensed beverages.
We spent the night at the Drury Inn near the arch. The view was amazing and the hotel was great.
Sunday we drove home, but first we stopped by Julie's alma matter, Lindenwood University, and Julie was able to walk the campus and relive some memories. We also had the chance to eat lunch with our friends Russ and Jane (Russ is the man who married us) and to catch up. All in all it was a great weekend.

This is the view from when you walked into Windows On Washington.

This was our view when we walked out of the hotel.

Entry 316: Chiefs Game

Friday night we were lucky enough to have two of our friends, Anita and Tyson, take us to a Kansas City Chiefs game. Tyson was given the tickets from work and we sat in the front row on the 20 yard line. The game was great and as you can see Lance got a little carried away by taking picures of the Chiefs cheerleaders.

Entry 315: Royals vs White Sox

Saturday night the Royals played a doubleheader against the White Sox and we were lucky enough to be there. We planned on staying for a little bit of the second game, but it went into extra innings and didn't end until 9:45 and the second game wouldn't start until 10:15. It was a great game though because we saw the Royals hit a grand slam and then win the game on a base hit in the 13th inning. It was probably one of our favorite games of the year.

Entry 314: Royals vs. Indians

Tuesday night we had the chance to see the Royals play the Indians. Julie was excited because her favorite Royals player, Zack Greinke, was pitching. So after Julie finished work, we went to Subway and headed for the game. We unfortunately did not stay for the whole game because Lance started back to school the next day and Julie was exhausted. The good news is that even though we weren't there, the Royals still won.

Entry 313: Drive In Movie

Recently (the fourth of July) we tried to go to the Twin Drive Inn movie theater, but unfortunately their were some technical problems and we didn't see any movie. The good news was that we were given four free movie passes to use anytime. We decided to try the drive inn again this weekend with our friends and thankfully the weather was perfect. We decided to see the double feature of The Expendables and Predator. Lance loved The Expendables and gave it 8 out of 10 stars just because of all the action (and there was no plot to bring it down). Julie gave it 2 out of 10 stars because there was no plot. We got through the first hour of Predator and just couldn't stay up any longer, so unfortunately no ratings for this.

Entry 312: No More Skylight

We have been waiting for more than a month for our ceiling to be fixed, but on Saturday the wait was over. For those that don't know we recently had our roof replaced and a roofer put his foot through our ceiling. The interior people came at 9:00 in the morning and were done by noon. Thankfully this whole ordeal is finally over.

Entry 311: Lance's New Toy

Loyal readers of the blog know that Julie recently got an Ipad. Lance told her that because of this he would like to get wireless in the house, and Julie agreed. So today at 11:45 our lives changed because we now have wireless. This will definitely make our lives easier.

Entry 310: It's Finally Fixed

Yesterday at 4:15 Lance received a call from Randy Reed telling him that the car was done. Lance was in shock and asked if they were sure, and they said yes. So the car is finally home and running great. Let's hope this continues to be true because this was quite the ordeal.

Entry 309: The Huebners vs. Randy Reed (The Sequel)

When we last left you, Randy Reed had our car to fix (for the third time) and we were driving a lovely rental. Let's fast forward to today where for the 5th consecutive day we are driving the rental car. Our hopes were off the charts yesterday, but then once again they were shattered. Let us explain: yesterday (Monday) at 4:30 Lance got a call saying that the car was fixed and to return the rental. Lance was super excited and rushed to pick up Julie from downtown to go get the car. Julie rushed and we knew we would have to get the car to Enterprise before 5:30 to even have a shot of getting the car tonight. We made it to Enterprise at 5:15 and just as we were about to leave for Randy Reed, Lance got a call saying to keep the rental because something happened with the car. They didn't explain anything to Lance, just that the car wasn't ready.

Lance left a nice little voice mail for the service manager and the next day received a call. Apparently (who know if it is true or not), they did something with the steering column so that the steering wheel fit on backwards. They are now having a 3rd steering column overnighted to the shop and Lance was promised (again) that he would have the car very soon.

Stay tuned for updates and hopefully the release of the car.

Entry 308: Wedding Shower

This past weekend Lance's sister, Jacque, had her bridal shower. We had been planning on going to this for awhile, but with Julie's new job we decided to lave Saturday instead of Sunday. We pulled out of the driveway at 4:45 in the morning and made it to the shower with 30 minutes to spare. Julie stayed at the shower, while Lance and his brothers/dad/future brother in law got fitted for their tuxes and then went bowling. Lance won't mentioned how he did bowling, but lets just say that out of the three games they bowled he finished last in all of them except the last one.

After the shower, we all went out for ice cream to celebrate Lance's dads birthday which is on Monday. You can never go wrong with Stone Cold Creamery. Afterwards we headed for the hotel and slept off the long day.

Sunday we stopped by Lance's mom and dads house to visit and help them with some computer issues. This gave Lance the chance to explain to Julie the difference between sweet corn and feed corn because the house is surrounded by corn. Julie is a big fan of sweet corn and was quite curious about it. She even got to pick an ear off of the stalk which was probably a highlight of the trip.

It was a great time and we can't wait to go back in about a month and a half for Jacque and Jon's wedding.

Here the guys are at the bowling alley.

Julie surrounded by the corn and wishing it was sweet corn and not the feed corn.

Entry 307: Julie's New Toy

That's right, Julie's new toy is an Ipad. Lance's grandmother sent us some money a little while back that we set aside to buy an Ipad. Julie has been begging for some time to purchase it, but Lance has always said to be patient because eventually they'll be a good deal on some. That good deal came today because it is a tax free holiday in Missouri, so instead of getting the 8GB Ipad we were able to get the 32GB. This is a great time for Julie to have one anyway because she will be doing a lot of taveling in her new job and this will keep her organized and entertained on the road. We did make a compromise though, in order to get the Ipad we had to get wireless in the house (and that is happening on Monday).

Entry 306: The Huebner's vs. Randy Reed

About two weeks ago we heard a sound come from the steering wheel every time we turned it at slow speeds. Julie was worried about it, so Lance took it back to the dealership we bought it from, Randy Reed, to have it looked at. Lance took the car in last Tuesday and they told him that the steering column would need to be replaced, but they didn't have the part. Randy Reed told him they could get the part today, but they were not sure how long it would take (this was three hours after he had dropped the car off). Lance agreed to have their courtesy shuttle take him home (which is 30 minutes from the shop), but about 5 minutes from the house the driver received a call saying that they couldn't find the part. We proceeded to drive back and make another appointment for Friday when the part was there.

Lance brought the car back on Friday at 8 in the morning, and he told the guy he would wait for the car. The guy said not a problem, but to be patient because it could take awhile. Lance had a book to read, so he thought not a problem. 11:30 rolled around and the service guy came and told Lance that they actually ordered the wrong part, but the right one was on its way in. Lance asked them if they would have it done by 4 because he had to go and pick up Julie from work. They said it would be done, but again to be patient. Well 3:30 rolls around and there is no word on how the car is doing. Lance goes and asks how much longer it is going to be and the guy responds that he is not sure. Lance tells the guy he was assured it would be done by 4:00, and he is told that the part only showed up 30 minutes ago. Lance called Julie and luckily one of her co-workers drove Julie to the shop. Finally at 5:00 (yes 9 hours later and yes Lance was in the waiting room the whole time) the car is done and the drama with the car is finally over, but it's not.

Monday night when we were driving home, Lance makes a turn and it almost like the wheels lock up. It only occurs when Lance turns the steering wheel at slow speeds, but it is a real safety hazard because it is almost impossible to turn the wheels. Lance calls the shop back and the service guy acts like he is making it up, but does agree to look at it on Thursday because that is the first open appointment. Lance had finally had enough and called the management at Randy Reed and told them everything that had occurred and it was amazing because when he dropped the car off today everyone had a new attitude. After dropping the car off at 8:00, Lance was told 10 minutes later that the steering column was put in wrong. Even better the car was not safe to drive (which I already knew) and they got me a rental until the car is done. So right now we are driving a Hyundia Accent until the car is finished.

Entry 305: Royals Game (Orioles)

Tonight we went to see the Royals/Orioles game and saw the Royals actually come from behind and win 4-3. Julie enjoyed it because she was able to see her two favorite players: Zach Greinke, who started the game, and Joakim Soria, who came in and closed the game. Lance enjoyed the game because it was also Salute To The Negro Leagues night where they bring back some of the old Negro League players and the teams wear the Negro League uniforms. Lance likes remembering the history, plus we also got free Kansas City Monarchs hats. We actually gave one of the hats to the usher because the employees don't get the giveaways and she has always been nice to us. A great game and Lance has ranked it his second favorite game of the year (behind the Red Sox game).

Here is the hat we got tonight.

Whenever Soria comes in to save the game they play Welcome To The Jungle and have flames coming from all of the screens.

A picture of one of Lance's favorite players, Chris Getz, at bat.

Here is Zack Greinke taking the mound.

Before the game they introduced some of the Negro League players at the game.
