Entry 469: New Addition To The Family

Lance made a big mistake today. Julie's mom and dad were over and noticed that the neighbor had some daschund puppies playing in the back yard. Lance went over to the neighbor and asked if he could bring one over to show Julie's mom and the neighbor gave him two. Big mistake because Julie took one of the puppies and fell in love with it. To make a long story short we added another dog.

Let me introduce you to JULIE'S dog (not Lance's), her name is Bella and she is 6 weeks old. Anyone that knows Julie knows why she chose the name Bella. Right now Bella gets along really well with Maggie, but Bobbie is still pretty leery of Bella. I think Bobby will warm up to it, but we'll see. For now here are some pictures of JULIE'S dog.

Entry 468: The Hallway

Our hallway was really in need of a paint job and a makeover. A few weeks ago we tackled the project and it turned out really nice. We are actually going to take this new paint color and paint the living room and kitchen the same color. We are now almost done with the upstairs and Julie's scrap booking room is all we have left.

In our ongoing effort to see more movies this year, this weekend we went and say The Vow. This movie was about a woman who got into a car accident with her husband and couldn't remember the last 5 years of her life including marrying her husband. The rest of the movie was about him trying to get her to fall in love with him again. Julie liked the movie, but said that it wasn't as good as she thought it would be. Lance thought it was okay, but he wouldn't go and see it again. We both gave it 5 out of 10 stars.

Enry 466: The Master Bedroom

We have finally finished our master bedroom (except for the shades) and our ready to reveal some pictures. Lance's favorite part is the area with the little dresser and picture because the picture was painted by his grandfather and Julie purchased an awesome frame for it. Juli's favorite part would be the picture above the bed and the mirror because she got it at a really good price. Everything in this bedroom has been redone by Julie and it looks awesome.

Entry 465: Breaking Dawn

Julie is a big Twilight fan and Lance, figuring that there was no chance it was ever going to happen, told Julie that is she stayed up until midnight that would go with her to pick up the Breaking Dawn DVD the night it came out. Naturally Julie took this as a challenge and stayed up to go to Target and get her movie. We arrived at 11:00 and waited in line to purchase the movie with all of the other Twilight fans. The only thing that made this night any better (sarcasm) is the fact that it was a wind chill of 0 when we got there and left. Julie has already watched the movie a few times.

Julie had seen the previews for the movie Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and she really wanted to see it. Lance was not to sure about it, but he was game to see it because it had Tom Hanks in it and he likes Tom Hanks. Without giving away the whole movie, it is about a young man with Aspergers who tries to keep is dad's memory alive after he dies in the World Trade Center on 9/11. We both thought the movie started off slow, but after that the movie was just incredible. It was so powerful and had so many moments where you wanted to look away but just couldn't. We would highly recommend this movie to anyone and we don't do that very often.

Entry 463: Stomach Flu

This week has been a rough week for the both of us. We will spare you the details, but Julie was really sick on Monday and Lance was really sick on Wednesday. We are pretty sure that it was the stomach flu and thankfully we are both starting to feel better. The stomach flu is not fun at all.

Entry 462: Royals Caravan

Every January the Kansas City Royals visit some smaller cities to keep convincing these cities to keep rooting for the Royals. Last year the weather was bad, so we couldn't make the trip. This year, however, the weather was beautiful so we got in the car and made our way up to Cameron to get some autographs and meet some players. We got there about an hour early and there weren't very many people there, so we were towards the front of the line. This years Caravan consisted of John Mayberry, Billy Butler, Greg Holland, Danny Duffy, and of course Slugerrr. We had met Billy Butler before and were excited to see him again because he seemed like a real nice guy. Lance was really excited about meeting Greg Holland and Danny Duffy though because they are a big part of the Royals youth movement and should be with the team for many many years. In the end we got the following things autographed: Billy Butler signed a Butler shersey and his rookie card, Greg Holland and Danny Duffy personalized a baseball for us and signed a bat, and John Mayberry personalized a baseball for us also. We both love doing things like this and are really excited for the season to start.

Tyler turned 3 last week, so we headed over to help him celebrate with family an friends on Saturday. It was a Spiderman theme and we were thrilled to be able to celebrate this birthday with Tyler.

Entry 459: The New Dog Pillow

If you were hoping to see a post with some Bobby and Maggie pictures, well you are in luck. We bought both dogs a dog pillow for Christmas in hopes of being able to keep Bobby off of the bed. Unfortunately Bobby has taken a liking to Maggie huge pillow and you can frequently see them laying together on the pillow. Lance just couldn't resist taking pictures of this (yes he is a dork and realizes this).

Entry 458: Guest Bedroom Reveal

After we finished the bathroom makeover, we decided to tackle the guest bedroom. This one did not take very much thought because Julie had it planned out in her mind what she wanted: a bedroom with a beachside resort feel. She choose the green color that we both absolutely love and really pops in the room. In the end we again had to paint the trim a bright white to match what we are doing with all of the trim in the house, painted all of the walls the green color, changed all of the outlets to a bright white, and bought new white vents to put in. This right now is Lance's favorite room in the house.

Entry 457: Bathroom Updated

As many of you know, we have been slowly making changes to our house, but we recently have begun kicking it up a notch and really redoing all of the rooms. Our goal is to get the whole upstairs done before April and we are pretty close. We finished with the bathroom, guest bedroom, and master bedroom (but Julie has a few finishing touches that she still wants to make, so no pictures of that yet). All we have left is the hallway and Julie's scrapbooking/Royals room. It is a lot of work, but so far we love it.

The first room we took on was the bathroom. This was a difficult room because it took us forever to choose a paint color. We actually tried seven different paint samples, but in the end we choose a color called contented. We actually started off by buying the shower curtain because we both really loved it and then matching a color to it.

Here is what we did to the room:
* Painted the walls.
* Sanded down the vanity and painted it a very dull white to give it a country feel.
* Added new hardware to the vanity.
* Painted all of the trim a bright white.

The only thing we still want to do is to change the counter top on the sink and we will be done with it. Pictures are below.

This is a picture that Lance took from Powell Gardens and we liked it so much we decided to use it in the bathroom.

Entry 456: Laptop Crisis

We apologize to everyone that follows our blog and keeps getting disappointed by the lack of entries, but we have had a laptop crisis in our house. Lance does a majority of the updating on the blog using his laptop, but recently it has been quite unreliable. At first it wouldn't turn on, but Lance finally figured out it might just need a new battery and that seemed to do the trick. Once that was fixed, however, it would not connect to the wireless in the house or even recognize it. Lance finally figured out the solution to that problem, so we hope everyone is ready fr a ton of updates because they are coming. By the way have you been keeping up with Lance's 365 blog, if not click the link on the right and see the pictures that he is taking every day and posting.

Entry 455: 365 Days With Lance

Lance has decided to try to do a 365 project this year. For those that don't know, this means Lance will be doing a blog where he posts a picture everyday and blogs about its significance. Lance is going to do this whole project on his phon which should make the whole process more interesting. Entry 454: We Bought A Zoo

In our earlier post we mentioned that we decided to start some of our own Christmas traditions, and one of the new traditions is to go to a movie Christmas day. We decided that we would go and see the matinee showing of We Bought A Zoo. We promise that we won't give away the whole movie, but it was basically about a widowed man who has 2 children. They are all struggling to move on with their lives and decided to move. They find their dream house, but it is on a zoo. They decide to buy it anyway and the rest of the movie is about trying to make the zoo successful and moving on with their lives.

We both really enjoyed the movie and even though she won't admit it, Julie cried at least twice during the movie. Lance enjoyed it more than the Twilight movies, but Julie thought the Twilight movies were better.

Entry 453: Christmas Eve

This year we decided to do Christmas a little different and to start some of our own traditions. We started off by deciding to cook ourselves a nice Christmas dinner. This consisted of a brown sugar ham, spinach mashed potatoes (new recipe that we tried because we both enjoy spinach), broccoli and rice casserole, and a nice cranberry orange salad. We spent most of our day cooking this, but in the end the work was well worth it because the meal was great.

We also decided that we wanted to attend the early Christmas Eve church service. We went to the service at 4:30 and it was absolutely packed. Julie made sure that we left early, and for once Lance was glad that she did. We were there 15 minutes before the service began and we still struggled to find a place to sit. It was a beautiful service and as always the music was wonderful, but then just when we were thinking that we were going to get out of their relatively quickly the associate pastor decided to give a sermon. It was a novel idea, except for the fact that it lasted for 20 minutes. Lets just say that the sermon talked for a good 5 minutes about the Indiana Jones movies. Saying that the people and kids weren't happy would be an understatement.

After church and eating we decided to finish the night off with a nice bottle of wine and watching The Sound Of Music. All in all it was a nice night.

Entry 452: Early Christmas Gift

Julie has been asking Lance for quite some time to get a keyboard for her Ipad. Lance got onto the Best Buy website on Black Monday and found a really good deal on a wireless keyboard that came with an Ipad stand. The item was backordered and unfortunately the day that it finally came in Julie got the mail and opened it. So far Julie really likes it and won't let Lance even touch it.

Julie is a fantastic cook, but this year she has decided that she really wants to bake Christmas cookies. The past two Sundays have consisted of Julie slaving away in the kitchen and trying out some new cookie recipes. So far Julie has made some delicious new recipe chocolate chip cookies, cranberry orange cookies, and pecan ball cookies (which you can see below). Lance really enjoys this because he gets to taste test all of them.

Entry 450: Giving Back

As many of you know, Lance transferred to a middle school this year and now works with 7th graders. So far he loves it, even though there are quite a few differences between the two groups of kids. There are four 7th grade teams and every year each team adopts a refugee family for Christmas. When Lance heard this he set a personal goal for himself of raising at least a $1000 for this cause. He talked to his paraprofessionals and they came up with some great ideas. One of the great ideas we came up with is to make duck tape bracelets and bows and to sell them. We researched it on the Internet and after some practice we began making them at a pretty good clip. We had a few nights where students stayed after school to help and ended up making around 500 bows and bracelets. For a week straight we sold bracelets for $2 and bows for $3 before school. At the end of the week we made a little over $700.
Lance also thought of a great fundraiser that he had once seen where a local custard shop came and sold custard to students during the school day. Lance contacted the custard shop and set everything up. They came during all of the lunch shifts (which was almost 2 hours) and Lance helped them collect money and put the toppings on the custard. We were making so much money, that we were having to put money in our pockets because the money bags were full. It was an exhausting two hours, but rewarding because when we were done our cut was a little over $250.
When it was all said and done Lance and his paraprofessionals raised $983 which was just a little short of the goal, but it made us all feel good because the money will be put towards a great cause.

Entry 449: Aaron Crow Signing

Lance noticed last Thursday that one of Julie's favorite Royals players, Aaron Crow, was going to be signing autographs at US Toys in Lenexa, Kansas. Aaron Crow is a relief pitcher for the Royals and one of the players that Julie really wanted to get an autograph from. We loaded up the car on Saturday and picked up one of our friends who wanted to go along. Julie was really worried about not getting an autograph, so we showed up an hour and a half before the signing and were the first ones in line. Aaron Crow was a really nice guy and he ended up signing a Crow shirt, baseball, his rookie baseball card, and a bat for us. You can see the pictures below.

This years Thanksgiving was a little different because it was the first Thanksgiving Lance's family has celebrated since his mom passed on. We decided that instead of cooking a meal this year that we would all go out and eat. We made reservations for a Thanksgiving buffet at a good restaurant and met all of the family there. It was a good meal and we both had our share of ham, roast beef, and turkey along with stuffing and pumpkin pie. We really enjoyed the meal, but enjoyed catching up with family more.

When we were finished at Powell Gardens we went to visit with Julie's mom and dad because they were in town watching their grandbabies for the evening. We went over and had a nice dinner with them and spent some time playing with Tyler and Brody. Below you see a picture of Julie with her godson, Brody, who must have been really excited to see her because he was up almost the entire time smiling and giggling.

While we were at Powell Gardens last Saturday they also had a scarecrow exhibit that was going on. They had about 20 different scarecrows around their garden area and you could vote on which one you liked. Last weekend the weather was so nice that we decided to go and visit Powell Gardens. We had never been there before, but we love Shaws Garden and had heard that this was just as nice. We really enjoyed the visit and got some great pictures, so enjoy.

Entry 440: Just Another Day

Today was just a typical day at work for Lance. His day started by helping a boy open his locker when he turned to Lance and whispered to him that he had an accident and needed to see the nurse. We will leave it up to your imagination as to what the accident was. Lance's day then ended when one of his students tried to call his mom, but instead dialed 911. You can imagine Lance's surprise when the police called his room and asked if everything was okay. Like the title says, just another typical day.

Last night we went to a wedding of the daughter of one of Julie's co-workers. It was a beautiful wedding and they had a photo booth at the reception. We stepped in to the photo booth and decided that we were going to have a cowboy theme. As you can see Julie choose the pink cowboy hat and Lance choose the hillbilly country cowboy hat. We then reenacted two cowboys falling in love and then it ended badly. We loved the photo booth.

Entry 437: Home Improvement Time

Since the Royals season is finally over, Julie has decided that it is time to do some home improvement projects around the house. Here are some of the projects that Julie has for Lance:

1. Painting all of the trim and windows in the house, so that they are all one uniform color. Some of the trim and windows have never been painted, so Julie has decided that everything is going to be a bright white.

2. One of the pictures that we recently took from Shaw's Garden, Julie wanted blown up and put into a frame.

3. Put the rest of the Royal sherseys in their shadow boxes and hang them in the Royals room.

4. Hang the autographed baseballs in the Royals room.

5. Pick out a new paint color for the bathroom and paint it.

6. Sand the vanity in the bathroom and repaint it to match the new bathroom paint color.

As you can tell Lance is going to be pretty busy for a while. You can see Lance's progress in the pictures below.

Last night we had a chance to meet up with some friends for dinner. One of our friends had a classic car that Julie has been wanting a ride in for quite some time, so she was invited over for a ride before dinner. Thanks Chuck, Anita, and Tyson, we had a great time.

Entry 434: Cardinals Game

As many of you know we have a goal of trying to visit every major league baseball stadium. Monday we went to Busch Stadium in St. Louis to watch the Cardinals play the Brewers. We both went to the game wearing our Zach Greinke stuff because he plays for the Brewers, but we loved him when he played for the Royals. The stadium was beautiful and it was a fun game to watch because both teams were battling for first place. What made this game even more memorable is that we were able to see it with Julie's mom and dad. Three stadiums down twenty seven more to go.

We were lucky enough to be able to see Carol, Michael, and their baby Cooper while we were in St. Louis. We both agreed that Cooper has to be the most content and calm baby that we have ever met.

Saturday we all went to Shaw's Garden in St. Louis and were able to see the Japanese Gardens. We have been there before, but we always love going and seeing all of the beautiful flowers. What made it even better was that the weather was beautiful, even though we did have a little bit of rain when we first got there. Enjoy the pictures.

Entry 429: Something Different

Since we both started working again, we have both decided that we need to try something different for our health. Julie leaves for work every day at 6:30 and we usually don't get home until 5:30, so it makes for a long day and usually we don't want to cook. This usually led to us going through drive through and grabbing something quick, but we decided to try something different which will hopefully help. We are going to cook a weeks worth of meals on Sunday and just eat them as the week goes on. It makes for a long Sunday, but hopefully in the end it will work. Last week we didn't eat out, so it is looking good so far.

Here is what we are making for this week: grilled shrimp, lemon pepper chicken, General Tao's chicken, and stuffed green peppers. Enough for now because the stove is beeping for us.

Julie has been wanting a new centerpiece for the kitchen table for quite some time. While walking through Sears yesterday Julie came upon a candle centerpiece that she really liked and ended up buying. Below you can see the end product.

Entry 426: New Camera

We have been talking for awhile today about getting a new camera and for some reason the stars aligned and we ended up getting a camera today at a very good price. The story about how we got it though is a little bizarre.

We were hungry when we left the house, so we decided to go and grab lunch at our favorite pizza place, the Dish. We got there a little past 11:00, but found out that it didn't open until noon. We decided to kill a little bit of time by going to Lance's favorite place, Best Buy, and to just look around. We gravitated towards the camera section and spent quite some time looking around. We knew the zoom that we wanted and the minimum mega pixels we would accept, but we still weren't ready to buy one yet.

When we left Best Buy, we still had a little bit of time left until the restaurant opened. We decided to go by the place where we got married and see if anyone else was getting married today, but our plans changed when we drove by Sears and saw that they were having a clearance sale because they were changing over to a K-Mart. We thought that we would go in real quick and see what they had. When we ventured to the electronics section we saw a camera that we had been looking at for a fantastic price. We decided that we couldn't pass this deal up, so we ended up getting a new camera that we love.

Entry 425: Hello Again

It has been awhile since we have last posted, but we have been very busy.

Julie has been having long days at work because it is college season. This is always a crazy time for Julie because she has to make sure that all of the college students on her caseload have everything taken care of and that everything has been paid. Making matters worse is that Julie's office is short a counselor which means that Julie had to do double the work. Thank goodness that college season is finally over.

Lance has also started work and it is different this year because he is teaching in a different building. He decided to make the switch so that he could take Julie to work at times and so far it has worked out great. Lance really likes the building and the team he is on, but he still misses his old building at times. Below you will see a picture of Lance and the team that he is working with.

As you can see we have been busy, but now that things have calmed down we will start posting much more frequently.

Entry 424: Out With The Old

Lance has had his original washer and dryer since 2000. They have served him well, but last year since we bought new ones they were out into retirement. Apparently they hold some sentimental value for Lance because they have been sitting in the garage for about a year. Julie finally told Lance he had to get rid of them, so Lance called the Salvation Army and they are coming to pick them up today. It is a very sad day for Lance.

Entry 423: Julie's Royals Room

Julie really loves to scrapbook, so Lance decided that this summer he was going to clear out a room to dedicate to Julie and her scrapbooking. This should come as no shock to anyone, but we are both huge Royals fans and have collected a lot of Royals stuff and decided to make it a Royals theme in the room. The room is nearly done, except for a few heavier items that need to be hung with care, and Julie has already fallen in love with it. Enjoy the pictures.

This is a look at the Royals scrapbooking room when you first walk in. As you can tell by the bag of dog food in the corner that it is also Maggie's eating room. Julie also uses this room to ride her bike in.

This is a mirrored Royals logo that one of Julie's friends gave her. The pictures are autographed from Billy Butler, Zack Greinke, and Alex Gordon.

Here are the autographed shersey's that are hanging up right now. We still have a signed Mike Moustakas shersey that we are waiting to buy a frame for. Julie's goal is to have the whole wall with autographed sherseys/jerseys. It will only take one or two more to complete it, so Julie is excited.

This is where Julie keeps a majority of her scrapbooking materials. You can see her table behind it as well as her Ipad and speakers.

This is Lance's little contribution to the room. Everytime we go to a Royals game Lance takes the ticket and puts it on the bulletin board. Hopefully by the end of the season it is all filled up.

One of Julie's season ticket holder friends knew that she was a big fan of Eric Hosmer, so he gave her this awesome picture he took of him at a game. Julie is going to have Eric Hosmer sign it for her in the very near future.

Lance's stepdad recently decided to have his hernia taken care of. He has had it for a few years and recently decided to get it taken care of. In the end he came out fine, but he didn't have a hernia he had 2 hernias. Now that is what Lance calls a high pain tolerance. Get better soon dad.

Entry 420: Harry Potter

Julie is a big fan of Harry Potter, but Lance is not such a big fan. Julie has read all of the books and seen all of the movies, but on the flip side Lance has read none of the books and seen only 2 of the movies (and that is only because Julie drug him to them). As you can probably guess Julie was excited for the last Harry Potter movie while Lance was not, so we came up with a compromise; the Twin Drive In. This way we both got what we wanted, Julie was able to see the last Harry Potter and Lance was able to see The Green Lantern which he really wanted to watch. It was a great and cheap compromise and we both left happy. The picture below is Lance's attempt to make the back of the car into a makeshift bed.

Enry 419: Mall Of America

We decided that one day we were going to devote to the Mall Of America. There were tons of things to do there; such as putt putt golf, an aquarium, and a Nickelodeon theme park. We decided to stay away from those and just focus on seeing everything in the mall. We did do a little bit of shopping and ate a delicious meal at Bubba Gump Shrimp (next time you see Julie you'll have to ask her about her souvenir glass). Overall we had a great time and just enjoyed walking around and seeing everything.

Entry 418: Downtown Hotel

We decided for our trip to Minnesota that we wanted to stay in a downtown hotel. Since we stay at a lot of Choice Hotels we decided to use some of our points and stay at the downtown Comfort Suites. Saying that we loved it would be an understatement because we absolutely loved it. The price was reasonable and our room was incredible. Everything in the hotel was a suite, so we had lots of room to spread out. The view as you can see from the pictures below was amazing and the best part is that we could open the windows and just listen to the downtown noises as we slept at night. This was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at.

Entry 417: Our Minnesota Road Trip

As you can tell from our previous post we recently took a road trip to Minneapolis. We drove down on Tuesday and drove back on Friday. he drive wasn't that bad, but on Friday we were driving through a torrential downpour up until the Iowa border. Our original plan was to go and see them play in Tampa, but with work and other things that have happened we settled on Minnesota. Entry 415: Lunch With New Friends

What we are beginning to notice is that we are getting to know a lot of people at the Royals games and really enjoy talking to them. Today we went to the stadium to get Mike Moustakas's autograph and saw some season ticket holders that sit in our section. We talk to them quite a bit at the games and while talking to them today found out that they live about 10-15 minutes from us. After we got our autographs we decided to meet up for lunch at the Dish Pizza and we really had a great time. Bill works for the water department in Gladstone and his wife, Kim, works as an early childhood special services teacher in Kansas City. We talked about the Royals of course, our jobs, and other things to get to know a little bit more about each other. It was a great time and we are already making plans to go to a BBQ at their house so Lance can see Bill's autograph collection.

Entry 412: It's Getting Hot In Here

When we got back from Lance's birthday dinner we were greeted with a surprise; our air conditioner decided to stop working. This wouldn't be such a big deal, except for the following problems:

- It was 9:45 at night when we found out that it was broken.
- It was a Saturday night and Monday was the 4th of July.
- It had been incredibly hot and humid the past few days and it wasn't supposed to be getting any better.

Lance went down to take a look at it and as expected had no idea what the problem was. We decided that we should at least make some calls and see if we could get someone out to take a look. We actually found a few places that had 24 hour hotlines and tried them. The first place we called said that the earliest they could get out was Wednesday and that wasn't even guaranteed. The next place we called was C.M. Mose and Son and they actually said they could be here tomorrow, yes Sunday, around 12:00. Lance naturally thought, "yeah right", but Sunday rolled around and the repairman actually showed up at 10 in the morning (yes early). Lance liked the repairman right off the bat because he was from Ottumwa, Iowa and they talked for a few minutes about Ottumwa. The final diagnosis was that the cylinder motor was fried (Lance's term, not his) and needed to be replaced. We were thinking that we were going to be paying an arm and leg for a Sunday visit, but we were shocked at how reasonable it was. Thanks again to C.M. Mose and Son.

Entry 411: Belated Birthday Celebration

Even though Lance's birthday was this past Wednesday, we celebrated with friends this past Saturday. We went to eat at a great Italian place called Salvatores. Julie ordered the Spiedini Di Pollo Giovanni and Lance ordered the Ziti Con Broccoli. The food was delicious and the company was just as good. Julie enjoyed the fact that the waiter was calling her honey and was making fun of Lance the entire time. It was a great birthday dinner wrapped up with dessert at Dairy Queen. Thanks Anita and Tyson for going with us.

Entry 409: Steak and Shake Of All Places

Lance grew up in a very small town in Iowa and only had a graduating class of around 50 people. When Lance left to start teaching in Missouri 18 years ago, he pretty much lost contact with all of them. This changed a little bit on Saturday.

As we stated in an earlier post some of Lance's family came down this weekend to see the Royals play the Cubs. When we left the game we were all hungry and decided to get something to eat. We looked all over and almost everything was closed (don't even get me going about how everything closes at 10:00 on a Saturday), so we settled on Steak and Shake. We ordered and dad went up to the bathroom and Lance's brother in law looks at us and said that dad must have made a friend because he was talking to someone. We all looked over and Lance thought that she looked familiar to him. She then came over and started talking to Lance and it was a girl he graduated high school with and then her husband came over and he was a guy that Lance graduated high school with. They were there to see the Cubs game also and it was nice to be able to reminisce for a little while. Like the post title says, Steak and Shake of all places.

This past weekend Lance's dad, sister, and brother in law came to town to watch the Royals play the Cubs. We had a great time that was made even better when the Royals beat the Cubs. The game was quite eventful for us, but I won't get into it but if your interested click here to read all about it. We were able to spend a little bit of time with them and took the to Lemon Tree, which they loved, and to a car show. It was great seeing them all and seeing that everyone was okay after everything that has happened.

Luck shown on Lance Wednesday night because a tree trimming company came to the door asking if we wanted them trimmed. Many of you are probably wondering how we have been doing since Lance's mom passed on. It still is difficult, but each day it seems to get a little bit easier. We seem to be getting a routine going again which really seems to help. Julie is keep herself busy at work and Lance is going to start teaching summer school in a few days. We both have a good cry every once in a while, but not nearly as much as we used to. We again want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers and checking up on us. Entry 401: In Remembrance

The department that Lance works with gave him a lovely gift card to a nursery that is in town to use in order to buy something in remembrance of his mom. This was perfect because mom loved flowers and would buy them all the time. She made dad promise her to buy flowers to put on the porch steps when she passed on, so this gift held some real meaning to us. We searched for a long time at the nursery and settled on the pot that you see below. We choose this because we wanted something that we could always take with us and would bring back some memories of her. Our plan is to buy a different plant every Mother's Day and plant it in the pot (this holds some significance because she passed away two days before Mother's Day).

We finally have all of the flowers planted in our yard. Yes we realize we were a little late doing it this year, but we have been pretty busy. Once again Julie added a lot of color to the yard and it really stands out when you drive down the block.

Entry 399: Another Chapter Closes

Friday was a bittersweet day for Lance because it was his last day of teaching at his current building. He had taught at that building since it opened in 2003 and loved every minute of it, but he decided it was time for a change. Those last few days were difficult because a flood of memories kept coming to him and he kept wondering if he made the right choice. In the end he realizes it is for the best and is ready to begin a new chapter in his teaching career.

Entry 397: Julie Strikes Again

Lance's parents have a beautiful house, but it always seems like the wind there is ridiculous. The wind is so bad that Lance's dad had to screw the furniture to the deck and even tie their trash can to a telephone pole so it doesn't blow across the highway on trash day.

Julie decided that she wanted to go and sit on the porch and that ended up being a big mistake. As soon as she opened the screen door the wind took it and it was all over. We all heard Julie yell, "Shit" and when we all came out we saw that the door had been nearly blown off its hinges and the only thing that stopped that from happening was the screwed down furniture. We fixed the door, but decided for Julie's safety and ours that we would take out the windows to stop the wind from taking it. The best part was that Julie sat on the porch afterwards and we all joked that dad was making her sit out there to think about what she did.

Entry 396: Trying To Get Back To Normal

These past two weeks have been very difficult on us to say the least. Lance's mom passed away on Friday, May 6th and since then it seems like we have been just treading water and trying to regain some normalcy in our lives. Lance's brother summed it up best when he said that we feel selfish for wanting her back, but in the end we all know she is in a better place.

The one thing that we have found out through this experience is that we have an outstanding support system around us. We are so moved by all of the condolences and generosity we have received and it frequently chokes us up. Thanks to everyone and keep checking back because we plan on posting more frequently we promise.

Yes we realize that it has been quite some time since we last blogged, but we have been struggling with a pretty major issue. Lance's mom, Kay, was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor a little bit before Thanksgiving this past year and even with surgery they were not able to remove it all. Lance prefers to not go into details, but the end is very near for Kay and we ask for everyone to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

We live very close to a park and Lance finds tennis balls over there all the time. Today he found something even better, a soccer ball. When Lance came home Bobby started going nuts wanting to play with it and below you can see that he enjoys it.

Entry 392: Blowout

Last night was quite an eventful night for us. We were going over to Mary and Phillip's house to drop off a dinner for them since they have a new baby at home. We were almost to their house when Lance heard a big pop come from the car. Lance knew that it was a blowout and pulled off the highway as soon as he could. Lance has changed his share of flat tires, but this one was a little bit different. He loosened the lug nuts and jacked the car up, but for some reason the tire would not come off. He pulled and pulled and the tire just wouldn't budge. We were just about to call a tow truck when a police officer came by and Lance flagged him down. The officer tried to get the tire off and he couldn't either, but he aid that there was a tow truck just up the street. The tow truck came and using a long crow bar he was able to pry the tire off. Lance finished changing the tire and we were on our merry way, but it was quite the experience for Julie who had never dealt with a flat before.

Entry 389: Early Birthday Surprise

Tonight we went out to eat with our friends Anita and Tyson. Tyson's birthday is this Sunday, so we decided to surprise him when we went to eat at Texas Roadhouse. When Tyson left for a minute we told the waitress it was his birthday and they did the rest. When we were finished eating, the restaurant pulled over a saddle and had Tyson sit on it while we all sang happy birthday. We have never seen Tyson so embarrassed in our lives and it was great.

Entry 388: Sharks and Pregnancy

Lance has had many strange talks with students over the years. Usually these talks are due to things that the students have done and some of Lance's favorites are:

- why when you rob a bank that you should take the bills and not the coins.
- when you pass around sulfur samples in science class, you shouldn't lick it.
- why you shouldn't run around the gym in just your underwear.
- why it is never a good idea to stick your finger in an electric stapler.
- why you should do your homework even though the Mayan calendar says the world will end in 2012.

These are just some of Lance's favorites, but today another talk might have made the list. Lance was asked today to talk to a student about something he did to a pregnant teacher. Lance had no idea what happened, so he asked the student to explain to him why. The student said that he took a ceramic shark and put it to a pregnant teachers belly. We discussed for awhile about this and when I asked what we learned from this the student said: putting a shark next to a woman's belly is not funny. A lesson we should all talk to our children about. Just an FYI, there was much more to the story besides doing this.

Entry 387: Voting Day

Today we did our civic duty and voted in our local election. This day is something that we both take pride in, but it also is a reminder of a funny story Lance has. When Al Gore and George Bush ran against each other in 2000 for the presidency Lance was not real impressed with either of them, so he decided to vote for Ralph Nader. Lance's grandmother always calls to make sure he votes, so when she called in 2000 Lance said he voted and that he voted for Ralph Nader. Lance's grandmother became upset at this news and told him that he wasted his vote and didn't talk to him for a few weeks. What can I say, we take politics seriously in this family.

We went to another Royals game today and treated ourselves to our favorite treat at the K, a frozen lemonade. Yes they are easy to make, but they are oh so good. Most people enjoy the frosty malts at the game, but we Huebner's always go with the frozen lemonade.

Entry 385: Bobby Vs. Jehovah's Witnesses

It is always a sure fire sign of spring when the Jehovah's Witnesses start knocking on our door. It is almost always an annoyance and apparently Bobby is getting tired of it also. Today the dogs were both outside and all of a sudden they both started barking which is a surefire sign that someone is here. Before I could get to the front door, Bobby had gotten to the fence and was barking at them. I called Bobby back and he sat at my side and growled/barked at the two men the entire time. They identified themselves as Jehovah's Witnesses, but wouldn't come towards me because they were scared of Bobby. I walked over and got their literature and they left. Have I stated lately that I love that dog.

Entry 384: Freakin' Hawaiian

The Kansas City Royals have a first baseman who is named Kila Ka'aihuae. Kila is from Hawaii and is nicknamed Hawaiian Punch. After tonight's game though Julie has given him a new nickname. The Royals were tied with the Angels tonight in the bottom of the ninth and Ka'aihuae came up. Julie was pretty excited and yelled, "Come on you freakin Hawaiian!" Lance kind of glanced at Julie because little kids were around us, but the look became excitement because the very next pitch Kila saw he hit for a home run to win the game. Let's just say that Kila will be keeping his nickname of the freakin Hawaiian in our household.

Entry 383: Opening Day

Today was the opening day for the Kansas City Royals. They played the Los Angeles Angels and unfortunately lost 4-2. We really enjoyed ourselves and Lance was impressed that it only took Julie 6 minutes before she yelled at a Royals player that he sucked. Julie is already in mid-season form. One day when Lance was reading Newsweek he read an article about a woman who had lived in New York City, but then married a man who moved her out to the country. They live on a farm with chickens, a wood furnace, and a less than year old baby. The ladies husband is being deployed tomorrow for a year and she has been blogging about it. Julie loves riding the bus to and from work. It gives her a chance to clear her mind everyday and she enjoys the people who ride with her. As you can see from the picture above today was not one of those days because her bus broke down. It broke down on the interstate and after 15-20 minutes they finally fixed the problem. All in all just another day in the life of Julie.

Entry 380: Snacks

Tomorrow is the beginning of MAP testing. MAP testing, for those that don't know, is the standardized test that the state of Missouri gives all students. Lance's department this year will be testing 35 students with everyone taking seven tests and we try to supply snacks for them during the tests. That means he needs about 250 bottles of water and snacks. Lance has always been embarrassed because he has always had to go through Wal-Mart and just load up on around $150 worth of snacks. Julie always laughed at Lance because people would just stare at him. This year, however, Lance got wise and sent someone else out to do it. Let the good times start tomorrow.

Entry 379: Ready For Opening Day

Julie enjoys shopping and Lance doesn't, but the one thing we both enjoy doing is shopping for Kansas City Royals gear. With opening day 4 days away we decided that we should both buy one new Royals thing for the upcoming season. After hitting four stores we both finally decided on what we wanted. Julie bought a vintage Royals shirt and Lance ended up with a new Royals sweatshirt. We are ready for opening day.

Entry 378: Touchdown

Yes we both realize that football season is long over, but in our house touchdown has a double meaning. When we first got Bobby from the pound they told us that he was potty trained. Boy did they lie to us on that one. Within the first week Bobby had peed on the carpet numerous times and left us many little "presents" during the day. Lance got pretty frustrated and took it upon himself to potty train the little guy. At first it was a struggle, but eventually Lance got him trained to do his business outside.

Now when Bobby has to use the bathroom, he has a little routine that he goes through. He will first jump at the door and then run to find Lance (he will never go and look for Julie for some reason). Once he finds Lance he will whine until Lance lets him out. Bobby will then run around the yard until he finds the perfect spot and squats (yes we are both aware of the fact that we know way to much about Bobby's bathroom habits). Now for the reason we titled this post touchdown, when Bobby finally does his business we yell touchdown and give him a treat when he runs in all excited. Anyone that says animals are not like your kids have never met our dogs.

Entry 377: The "D" Word

Lance went to pick up Julie from work today and on the drive home he asked her if she wanted to see the school he would be teaching at next year and Julie agreed. As we were driving by the school there was a girl walking out and Julie commented that she looked like a dork. Lance had her explain why she thought that and she told him that it was because the girl was carrying an instrument (Julie says they called the kids that carried instruments home dorks when she was younger). After the explanation Julie turned to Lance and said, "You're still the biggest dork in the world." You can just feel the love.

Entry 376: A Butt Chewing Avoided

Back in October of 2010 we decided that we wanted to continue with being Kansas City Royals season ticket holders, but we wanted to upgrade from 20 games to 40 games. We both really enjoyed going to the games last season and decided that we wanted to go even more this year. Yes we both realize that the Royals are terrible and won't be good at all this year, but it doesn't matter to us. Lance enjoys watching the games and Julie enjoys watching also (people and game).

Now on to how the Kansas City Royals avoided a major butt chewing. When we bought our season tickets, we also decided to buy parking passes. It seemed like a great idea, but when we got our season tickets in the mail the parking passes weren't there. Lance called the ticket office and they said that for some reason a few people didn't get their parking passes. She got our name and season ticket holder number and she told Lance that she was going to send them out immediately. Well 10 days passed and there were still no parking passes, so Lance called again and they said that they were sending them all out that Friday. Well another week passed and still no parking passes, so Julie said that if we didn't get them today she was going to call them nd give them a piece of her mind. As most people know Lance is a pretty laid back guy, but Julie will give you a piece of her mind when she is upset and holds nothing back. Luckily for the Royals the parking passes were at the door when Lance got home today, so the butt chewing was avoided. It wouldn't have been pretty, trust me.

Entry 375: Sticks

The weather has been gorgeous lately, so we have been starting a fire and sitting by it almost every night. We have quite a few logs, but not as many sticks as we would like. Julie has taken it upon herself to notice that the yards around us have quite a few sticks in them and she wants to go over and grab them. Lance has been explaining to her that we need to ask first, so Julie has been patient enough to wait for Lance to ask. It looks like Lance is going to get to know his neighbors pretty well.

Entry 374: Guess Who Likes The Weather

Yes you guessed it, Bobby loves this weather. When Lance leaves to pick up Julie, Bobby runs out the door and jumps into the car. Once we get to the bus stop Lance will roll down all the windows and Bobby is in heaven sticking his head out the window. This picture is Bobby waiting to pick up Julie.

Entry 373: Door To Door

A little over a year ago we were introduced to Door To Door organics by our friend Susan. Door To Door is awesome because every 2 weeks (we could have gotten it every week, but decided on every other week) you get fresh vegetables and fruit delivered straight to your door. It is like Christmas when you get home and see that box of vegetables and fruit waiting for you on the doorstep. Here is an example of what we got this week:

- 2 Yams
- 3 Fuji Apples
- 2 Braeburn Apples
- 2 Cara Cara Navel Oranges
- 1 Champagne Mango
- 6 Red Potatoes
- 2 Bananas
- 1 Cherry Tomato
- 7 Kiwi's

If you haven't tried Door To Door, you absolutely should.

Entry 372: Barbecue-a-thon

The weather was absolutely gorgeous today, so as we were sitting outside Julie turned to Lance and said she wanted to grill something. Lance asked her what and she didn't really know, so we decided to have a barbecue-a-thon. As you can see below we ended up grilling hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken legs. We love the spring weather and hope it stays that way.

Entry 371: A "Crappy" Day

Today we went to Pennys to do a little shopping for Cooper. We got to the newborn section when Julie tapped Lance on the shoulder and asked him if he farted. Lance said no and anyone that knows Lance will tell you that he is always brutally honest when someone asks him if he farted. Throughout our entire time in the newborn section we continued to smell something foul. When we finally made all of our purchases and walked to checkout we found what was causing the odor; a big pile of poop. That's right there was a big pile of poop in the center of the aisle and poop footprints all over the carpet. Once we vomited in our mouths, Lance went and told someone who called to have it cleaned up because the people who did this didn't tell anyone.

This leads us to the following question: if your child poops in the store and it gets on the carpet don't you tell someone? You would think it would be common courtesy to inform the store or maybe they just thought it was funny. We are here to tell those people that there is nothing funny about poop (especially in a store).
